Peer Writing Groups
Being in the company of other writers is one of the best ways to sustain your motivation to write, receive constructive feedback and replenish one's literary creativity. Below is a listing of a few writing groups that are in the Hudson Valley area and are accepting new participants.
If you facilitate an ongoing writing group and would like to have a posting here, e-mail webmaster@hvwg.org with the following information:
Required:
- Type of group (i.e. poetry group, women's writing group, fiction novel critique)
- Contact information (which can be an e-mail address, phone number or web site)
Optional but very useful:
- Meeting times
- Meeting place
- Name of facilitator/contact person
- Descriptive blurb (no more than 60 words)

Albany Library Writing Group
Meeting Times: 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, 9:30 a.m. to noon
Location: Albany Public Library, 161 Washington Ave., Albany

The group has been in existence for over fifteen years. It focuses on fiction and poetry. Each member can present each week with a ten minute reading of his/her work which is then critiqued by the members.
Critique Group - Rensselaer County
Meeting Times: Weekday afternoon (1:30 pm) once a month, day of the week TBD
Location: Rensselaer County area

This group's focus is on critiquing magazine articles and longer fiction and nonfiction works, with the goal of submitting for publication. Ideal for full and part-time freelancers who are feeling isolated and want the support of other writers. The group will also share marketing tips, queries and book proposals.
Critique Group - Colonie
Meeting Times: Every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Location: Borders Bookstore, on Wolf Road, Colonie

This group is open to writers of fiction in any genre, including those that don't officially exist. "Walk-ins" welcome. Bring about ten pages, double spaced, to read aloud.
Delmar Writing Group
Meeting Times: 1st Friday of the month, 1:00 p.m.

Every Other Thursday Night Poetry Group
Meeting Times: 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, 6:30 p.m.
